American Rapper P Diddy has taken responsibility for his actions, apologizing to the court for the hurt and pain he has caused others.
Ahead of his sentencing hearing, Diddy filed a four-page letter in which he admitted the past two years have been the hardest of his life, saying “there is no one to blame for my current reality and situation but myself.” He described how pain became a teacher during his incarceration, acknowledging that his downfall was rooted in selfishness.
Diddy directly addressed a video showing him assaulting Cassie, calling himself “dead wrong” for his actions and noting he could not forgive someone else for harming one of his daughters in a similar way.
He also highlighted the personal growth he has experienced while in prison, celebrating sobriety for the first time in 25 years. Diddy asked the judge for mercy, acknowledging he has failed his children, but expressing his desire to return home to be the parent they need. He also mentioned his wish to care for his 84-year-old mother, who recently underwent brain surgery.
Describing the horrible living conditions at MDC Brooklyn, Diddy said he fears for his life but insisted he is not seeking sympathy, only a chance to turn his life around. He concluded by asking the judge for an opportunity to be a better son, father, community leader, and live a better life.
Diddy’s sentencing hearing begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET. Prosecutors are seeking 11 years in prison, while Diddy’s defense is asking for 14 months, crediting the 12-plus months he has already served.
