New Malawian Film “Royal Dilemma” Set for November Premiere

A new Malawian film titled Royal Dilemma, featuring some of the country’s most celebrated actors including Joyce Chavula, Edwin Chonde, and Miracle Chinga, is set to premiere in early November 2025.
Produced by Alinafe Mwambira, the film was made on a budget of over K15 million and features a cast of 43 actors. It was shot by cinematographer Isaac Misoya and carries a storyline centered on love, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
Other stars featured in the movie include Veteran Edwin Chonde, Idah Chabs, Innocent Manyera, Ian Chisakula, Wanangwa Ngwira, George Sambo, Aaron Simwaka, and Shyreen Elias.
However, after behind-the-scenes photos believed to be from the movie set surfaced online, social media users have raised mixed reactions. Some have questioned the costume choices, suggesting that the outfits resemble those seen in traditional Nigerian films rather than Malawian cultural attire.
“Why does it look like there’s an element of Nigerian culture instead of ours?” one user commented, sparking debate about authentic representation in Malawian cinema.
Mwambira has hinted at plans to host a red-carpet premiere before officially releasing Royal Dilemma on YouTube.
