Nsanje Man Sentenced to Three Years for ESCOM Theft and Vandalism

A 30-year-old man, Stewart Lapozo, has been sentenced to three years in prison for vandalizing and stealing property belonging to the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), valued at K65 million.

The sentence was handed down today by Bangula Senior Resident Magistrate Linda Chiwanda, after Lapozo pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to court records, Lapozo was caught stealing and damaging ESCOM property, including poles and overhead wires, on September 25, 2025, at Kanyimbi Village in the Chiromo area.

Lapozo hails from Jane Village under Traditional Authority Masache in Chikwawa District.
