Three Arrested in Thyolo for Allegedly Stealing ESCOM Equipmentt

Police in Thyolo District have arrested three men on suspicion of stealing electrical equipment belonging to the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).

According to Thyolo Police public relations officer Rebecca Kashoti, the arrests follow reports from community members who alleged that the suspects vandalized and stole ESCOM cables and other materials in Naphazi area in July 2025.

The suspects have been identified as James Gondwe, 44, from Gumbi Village under Traditional Authority (T/A) Nanseta, Dangerous Sumbuleta, 23, from the same village, and Alfred Kaliati, 24, from Jayenda Village in the same district.

Kashoti said police investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
