The late Traditional Authority Matola of Balaka was laid to rest at his headquarters, where a large crowd gathered to pay their final respects.

Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Elizabeth Gomani Chindevu, delivered a condolence message on behalf of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, who expressed deep sorrow over the chief’s passing.

In his message, the President acknowledged the important role traditional leaders play in promoting development, unity, and discipline across political lines.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Trust Jackson Nazombe described the late chief as a unifying leader who was always present and supportive to his people.

Born Lomos Malehe on October 9, 1952, the late chief was installed as Sub-Traditional Authority in 2019 and elevated to full Traditional Authority in April 2025; he is survived by his wife, six children, and 29 grandchildren.
