Two Arrested in Phalombe for Vandalizing and Stealing ESCOM Property

Police in Phalombe have arrested two men in connection with the vandalism and theft of property belonging to the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).

According to the district’s police spokesperson, Jimmy Kapanja, the suspects, Richard Symon Gomani, 43, and Emmanuel Phiri, 26,  were apprehended in Kambona area.

The duo was allegedly found in possession of ESCOM-branded work uniforms and tools including climbing irons, gloves, and a hacksaw. Kapanja stated that the men initially claimed to be ESCOM employees but later admitted to impersonating staff from the power utility company.

The suspects are reported to be from Mulola and Namputu villages in Mulanje District.
