Police in Ntcheu have arrested two men for being found in possession of 100 kilograms of cannabis without a license.

Ntcheu Police spokesperson Jacob Khembo has identified the suspects as Felix Tembo, aged 30, a motor vehicle driver, and Paul Bazilo, aged 38, his assistant.

According to Khembo, the two were arrested at Senzani while driving a Ford Ranger bearing registration number MG 544 AN, which police suspect to be fake.

“Officers at Senzani mounted a checkpoint and stopped the vehicle after receiving a tip. Upon searching it, they discovered 30 bags of cannabis weighing about 100 kilograms,” said Khembo.

He added that the suspects failed to produce any documentation authorizing them to transport the substance.

The two are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of Indian hemp without a permit, contrary to the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the authenticity of the vehicle’s registration number.

Tembo hails from Pengapenga Village, while Bazilo comes from Sungamoyo Village, both in the area of Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu District.
