Zomba Central Hospital Technician Arrested for Alleged Theft of Equipment

Police in Zomba have arrested a Laboratory Technician at Zomba Central Hospital, identified as Ian Kambwala, for allegedly stealing hospital property worth millions of kwacha.

Zomba Police spokesperson Inspector Patricia Sipiliano confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was found in possession of some of the stolen items. However, she declined to give further details, citing ongoing investigations.

According to a source at the hospital, the missing items include laboratory equipment, a printer, a UPS, and other medical consumables.

The source further revealed that equipment and other materials had been disappearing from the hospital’s Outpatient Department (OPD) and the laboratory over time, prompting authorities to report the matter to police.

Investigations are still underway to recover the remaining items and determine whether others were involved in the theft.
