The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Blantyre, presided over by Justice Paul Chiotcha, will resume the trial of Dutch national Wim Akster on November 12 this year. Akster is facing charges of sexually abusing minors.
During today’s proceedings, the court heard testimony from a witness who alleged that Akster invited him to his residence in Mapanga, Blantyre, where he was sexually assaulted in a secluded area.
The witness noted that at the time of the alleged abuse, Akster was able to walk unaided, unlike his current condition where he appears in court using a wheelchair.
“Akster threatened me to keep quiet about the matter, but I confided in a friend, even though I was unable to file a police report at the time,” the witness told the court.
The witness also responded to questions from prosecutors Victor Jere and Fostino Maere, who are representing the state in the case.
According to Jere, the government has two more witnesses expected to testify when the trial resumes.
