Five Arrested Over Maize Mill Break-in in Kawale

Police in Kawale have arrested five men in connection with a maize mill break-in that resulted in the theft of 16 bags of maize during the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Kawale Police, the suspects were intercepted by detectives from Area 23 during a night patrol operation on October 21.

The five have been identified as Chifundo Stafa (29), a well-known habitual offender, and four Kabaza (motorcycle taxi) operators  Fannel Thomas (35), Boniface Chiomba (27), Moses Kuphenda (39), and Wilson Banda (40).

All suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of burglary and theft.

Police have commended the vigilance of Area 23 detectives for their swift response, which led to the arrest and recovery of the stolen property.

Stafa hails from Mailos Village, Traditional Authority Mgabu in Chikwawa, while Banda and Kuphenda are from Mwazama Village (T/A Mazengera) and Mbalame Village (T/A Masula) in Lilongwe, respectively. Chiomba is from Sema Village, T/A Chigalu in Blantyre.
