KENYA – Residents of Nyamira County were shocked on Monday morning after a 22-year-old Moi University student was found dead in a local lodging.
The third-year student had reportedly travelled from Eldoret to visit her boyfriend in Nyamira town over the weekend.
According to police, the boyfriend, who is from Kisii County, had booked a room for the two at a nearby guesthouse.
Witnesses said the couple was seen having dinner and drinks on Sunday evening before retiring to their room.
Chaos broke out the next morning when the man rushed to the reception, claiming his girlfriend had collapsed and was unresponsive.
Hotel staff and guests found the woman lying motionless on the bed, partially dressed, and alerted the authorities.
Nyamira County Police Commander confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing, with the boyfriend currently in custody to assist with the probe.
Preliminary findings suggest exhaustion or a medical issue may be the cause, though police have not ruled out foul play, especially after recovering alcohol and drugs from the room.
