Renowned South African actor Zolisa Xaluva is set to attend this year’s Malawi Film Awards and Gala, formerly known as the Malawi Film Festival, slated for December 18 and 19 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Xaluva, famous for his roles in Kings of Joburg, Generations, Gomora and Blood Psalms, will join other international film stars expected to grace the prestigious event.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe, Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) president Dorothy Kingston said this year’s awards will celebrate excellence in the local film industry by recognizing outstanding actors, filmmakers, and technical professionals.

“This event is for film industry players, and we will award them for their contributions. However, we urge for support from the public for it to be successful,” said Kingston.

She added that inviting international actors is part of FAMA’s broader mission to build regional collaborations and promote Malawian talent on global platforms.

The event, which has been budgeted at K117 million, is seeking financial support and sponsorship from partners to ensure its success.
