Malawian artist Loiso Roben, popularly known as Loiso, is fast becoming one of the most talked-about names in the local music scene admired for his raw talent, soulful vocals, and mastery of the guitar.
Loiso’s breakthrough came through Mikozi Creative’s “Gululu” program, where he impressed audiences by performing multiple songs using just his guitar. Despite being active for several years, he is now finally receiving wider recognition and love from both fans and fellow artists.
Top musicians such as Driemo, Martin Anjelz and many have publicly praised Loiso’s artistry. Driemo described him as the “Next Big Thing”, writing:“Fly, my Gee. The wings are yours and the sky is vast and belongs to no one.”
Similarly, Martin Anjelz lauded him as “100% Pure Raw Talent… The Future Is Here.”
However, veteran artist Kalawe has sparked discussion about “fake love” in the music industry, suggesting that many people ignored Loiso’s work until he went viral.
“This guy has been posting his videos for a long time and people never supported him. Now that Mikozi has featured him, suddenly everyone calls him ‘dolo’ and ‘next big thing.’ It feels fake,” Kalawe said in a social media post.
Loiso, who first gained attention last year after featuring in Phyzix’s song “Kaliya,” recently released a new single two weeks ago. Despite positive feedback, the song has yet to reach 50,000 views on YouTube, showing the gap between online praise and real support.
As more industry players rally behind him, Loiso’s story reflects both the promise and challenges facing genuine talent in Malawi’s evolving music scene.
