Two Drown, One Missing After Canoe Capsizes on Shire River in Chikwawa

Two people have been confirmed dead while one remains missing after a canoe capsized on the Shire River in Chikwawa District on October 20, 2025.
The deceased have been identified as Doreen Henry Tasela, 30, from Chipula Village, and Alexander Master, 22, from Mbenderana Village, both under Traditional Authority Kasisi in Chikwawa District.
According to Chikwawa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Dickson Matemba, the two bodies were recovered floating along the Muleza dock in the Shire River following an intensive search operation.
“The search for the third person who is still missing is ongoing,” Matemba said.
