The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has endorsed its president, Lazarus Chakwera, to continue serving as the party’s leader.
The decision follows a special meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee held in Lilongwe, which was also attended by President Chakwera and other senior officials.
MCP spokesperson Jessie Kabwira said the party’s recent electoral performance was not due to Chakwera’s leadership, adding that the party will conduct an internal review to understand the reasons behind its loss in the elections.
Kabwira emphasized that the MCP remains committed to regaining public trust and working closely with Malawians to improve their livelihoods through effective policies.
On the issue of who will represent the party in key parliamentary leadership roles, including that of the Leader of Opposition and Speaker, Kabwira said that the party president will make the final decision on the appointments.
