Police in Mangochi are holding a 40-year-old man, Milambo Umali, on suspicion of killing his biological father by striking him with a hoe handle following a dispute over a piece of land.

Mangochi Police spokesperson Amina Tepeni Daudi said the incident occurred on October 25 this year at Ndembo Village, Traditional Authority Chimwala, in the district. The suspect is reported to have started assaulting his father after the latter refused to lend the land to another person for cultivation.

According to Daudi, the suspect then took a hoe handle and struck his father several times on the side of the body.

The victim was first taken to Mtima Bi Primary Hospital and later referred to Mangochi District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have identified the deceased as a resident of Gwaza Village, Traditional Authority Chimwala, in Mangochi.
