President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and First Lady Gertrude Mutharika have extended their heartfelt best wishes to the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, The Scorchers, as they face Angola this afternoon at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

In a statement posted on the President’s official Facebook page, Mutharika said:

“The First Lady and I extend our heartfelt best wishes to the Malawi Women’s National Football Team (The Scorchers) as they face Angola this afternoon at the Bingu National Stadium in the final qualifying match for the 2026 Morocco WAFCON Championship. As the number one supporter of our national teams, we urge all football-loving Malawians to rally behind The Scorchers as they strive to make history by qualifying for the WAFCON for the very first time. Go Scorchers, go! Make Malawi proud!”

To encourage massive fan attendance, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that entry to all open stands will be free of charge, while only VIP and Corporate Box sections will require tickets.

FAM earlier stated that fans who purchased tickets for the cancelled Malawi vs Equatorial Guinea match can use them for today’s fixture. FAM has also advised supporters to keep the tickets safe for future Flames matches.

Head Coach Lovemore Fazili remains optimistic about his team’s chances of securing a historic qualification after holding Angola to a goalless draw in the first leg on Thursday, 23 October, at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.

With the home crowd behind them, The Scorchers are determined to make history by qualifying for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the very first time.
