A total of 40 students who dropped out of school years back have been given another lifeline as they will now be trained in Plumbing and Electrical Installation at Soche Technical College through a Mk10 million sponsorship from MPICO, one of the subsidiaries of Old Mutual Malawi Limited.
This was revealed today when officials from the two institution signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Blantyre.
Speaking after the signing ceremony MPICO’s Head of Property Services, Eliot Jambo said company is committed to improving lives through education and skills development.
“Through this collaboration, we are giving 40 vulnerable young people who never had an opportunity to attend formal education a second chance in life. Over the next six weeks, these young people will be equipped with vocation and entrepreneurial skills that can transform not only their individual lives but also the community,” said Jambo.
Soche Technical College Acting Head of Construction Department, Steria Mpinganjira hailed MPICO for the support, saying it will go a long way in changing the lives of venerable students.
The training will run from October 27 to November 24 2025 and 20 female students and 17 male students have already started the training.
