The Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in Kasungu has sentenced two men, Grave Nkhoma and Nickson Nthukwa, to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour for multiple wildlife-related offences.
The two were identified as notorious poachers linked to the killing of several elephants in Kasungu National Park.
They were found guilty of entering the park without a permit, carrying weapons, killing an elephant, and possessing ivory and firearms.
Principal Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe delivered the combined sentence after reviewing evidence from park authorities and investigators.
Authorities say the stiff sentence should serve as a deterrent to others involved in illegal hunting activities.
