The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has expressed deep sorrow following the death of veteran photojournalist Lazarus Nedi, who passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Chiradzulu District Hospital.

Nedi, who retired about two years ago, had a distinguished career spanning several decades. He worked with the Times Group as a photojournalist and videographer, and earlier in his career served at Fatchi Photographics and the State House during the Kamuzu Banda era.

In a statement, MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga described Nedi as a dedicated and passionate journalist who greatly contributed to the development of photojournalism in Malawi.

“Nedi will be remembered for dedicating many years of his life to photojournalism. He mentored many young journalists and was deeply committed to documenting Malawi’s stories and history through his lens,” said Matonga.

Nedi was also known for championing journalists’ safety and freely sharing his knowledge with upcoming photographers and reporters.

Burial is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Mwanje, Chikoja Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu District.

MISA Malawi has extended condolences to Nedi’s family, his former colleagues at Times Group, Fatchi Photographics, State House, and the entire media fraternity.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” reads part of the statement.
