The Malawi Police Service has arrested several senior officers, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) for Neno Police Station, Senior Superintendent Charles Kasalika, who previously served as Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the National Police Headquarters.

According to reports, Kasalika was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning and is being transported to Lingadzi Police Station under police escort. Also reportedly arrested is Inspector Gracian Sipirian, the current Senior Crime Investigation Officer (SCIO) for Mzimba, who until last month headed the Scenes of Crime Section at Area 30.

In a related development, three other officers from Area 30 Headquarters  Senior Superintendent Loudon Mnthinda, Sub Inspector Govati, and Sergeant Maseko  were arrested on Thursday.

Police have confirmed the arrests are connected to a robbery case involving a Burundian national in Salima.
Deputy National Police Spokesperson Alfred Chimthere said the officers are suspected of having swindled the victim out of a substantial amount of money.

The case is reportedly linked to broader investigations into property theft and abuse targeting Rwandan and Burundian refugees. Stolen items including shipping containers and other valuables  are being held as evidence at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe.

When contacted, Chimthere said investigations are ongoing and promised the public that the police service will issue a comprehensive statement once all facts are established.

The arrests mark one of the largest internal crackdowns in recent memory within the Malawi Police Service, exposing deep concerns over internal corruption and abuse of authority among high-ranking officers.
