Police in Lilongwe have arrested three men for allegedly stealing 14 brand-new plasma screens after one of the suspects broke into an electronics shop at Bwalolanjovu by cutting through the roof at around 2:30 a.m. on November 6, 2025.
Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Hastings Chigalu confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating that all 14 screens, with an estimated value of K3.5 million, have been recovered.
Chigalu identified the suspects as Edward James, 32, John Banda, 26, and Harry Zomera, 32.
According to Chigalu, on Wednesday at around 10:00 p.m., detectives received a tip-off that a man had broken into a shop owned by a Chinese national by cutting through the roof.
A squad of detectives was swiftly dispatched to the scene and established a perimeter.
“While maintaining surveillance, the detectives observed James emerge from the shop’s roof at around 2:30 a.m. and begin lowering the screens to the ground,” Chigalu said.
“The detectives allowed him to lower six of the 14 screens, which he had hidden in the ceiling, before moving in to arrest him.” Edward James,John Banda and Harry Zomera
During the arrest, James was found with a metal cutter, believed to be the tool used to gain entry.
“Shortly afterward, detectives arrested the two accomplices, Banda and Zomera, near the Bata Shop in the same area,” Chigalu added. “It is alleged they were waiting there to receive the stolen screens from James.”
