Police in Nsanje have launched an investigation to trace suspects involved in the killing of a 27-year-old man on the night of November 8.
According to Nsanje Police Deputy Spokesperson Jabulani Ng’oma, the deceased, identified as Sabudu Bonjesi, was found dead near Kapalakonje Primary School in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Malemia.
Ng’oma said the matter was reported to police by the deceased’s brother, Patrick Bonjesi, from Mbenje Village, under T/A Ngabu.
Preliminary reports indicate that the late Bonjesi was known in the area for being involved in various criminal activities, including theft. On the night of the incident, he was reportedly seen roaming around at midnight before being caught and assaulted by unidentified individuals who later killed him.
Police have strongly condemned the act, warning community members against taking the law into their own hands. They urged the public to report any criminal suspects to police rather than resorting to mob justice.
Police investigations into the matter are still underway.
