Police in Nkhata Bay District have arrested an American national identified as Timothy Allan, from California, USA, for allegedly causing a disturbance at a local lodge.

According to Nkhata Bay Police Deputy Spokesperson, Devoter Mithi, the incident occurred on Thursday night after Allan was allocated a room at a lodge which he reportedly did not like.

Mithi explained that Allan demanded to move to another room  one he usually occupies whenever he visits  but found it already occupied by another guest.

“In protest, the suspect started smearing pears on the room’s walls, broke the door lock, and damaged a water tap. He then threw the bedding into the toilet as a way of expressing his displeasure,” said Mithi.

The damaged property has been valued at K225,000.

Police say Allan will soon appear in court to answer charges related to malicious damage and disorderly conduct.
