Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Vice President Timothy Mtambo has distanced himself from reports linking him to planned protests, describing the claims as “cheap propaganda” aimed at tarnishing his image.
“Please leave me alone; stop the cheap propaganda!” Mtambo said in a statement issued this week.
He clarified that his focus remains on supporting the Peter Mutharika administration and helping address the country’s economic challenges.
“My duty is to support our party President and the State President in fixing the economic hardships Malawians are going through,” he stated.
Mtambo also dismissed any links to the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC), stressing that he has had no involvement with the group for years.
“I left HRDC over five years ago. I have no intention of going back,” he said, urging the public to direct HRDC-related questions to its current leadership.
He further appealed for unity and an end to divisive politics, saying Malawians should “unite for the development and progress of our nation.”
Mtambo warned against the misuse of his name or image for political agendas, adding, “Disregard any statement not issued directly by me. I have not appointed anyone to speak or post on my behalf.”
