Mob Attacks Police Officers, Damages Vehicle During Arrest in Machinga

A police operation in Machinga District turned violent in the early hours of Wednesday when community members attacked officers and damaged a police vehicle during an arrest.
According to a police report from Domasi, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Kavina Village, Traditional Authority Mposa, where officers had gone to arrest a suspect, Bwanali Mangoni, following a warrant of arrest issued on October 16, 2025, by His Worship Mchotsa, Second Grade Magistrate at Domasi Court.
During the operation, relatives and other community members linked to the suspect became violent and assaulted Detective Inspector T. Mnolo, who is attached to the Domasi Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The mob also smashed the window glasses of a Toyota Land Cruiser police vehicle.
Police later managed to bring the situation under control and rescued the injured officer, who was rushed to Zomba Central Hospital for medical treatment.
Law enforcement authorities have since launched investigations into the assault and malicious damage, assuring the public that calm has been restored in the area.
