A man from Manje Village in Chief Zingalume’s area, Eastern Province, is on the run after he allegedly set his elder brother’s house on fire following a dispute over farming land.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, saying it occurred around 02:00 hours yesterday.

According to Mweemba, the victim, Joseph Phiri, had earlier clashed with his younger brother, Shefarati Phiri, who later threatened to stab him with a knife. Joseph managed to escape unharmed.

The suspect is then alleged to have set his brother’s house ablaze in anger.

Police who visited the scene found the house completely destroyed, along with household items valued at over 13,600 Kwacha.

Officers have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
