Divisions have emerged in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as some top officials who championed the return of President Peter Mutharika feel sidelined when it comes to appointments.

Some officials are accusing Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet (SPC) Justin Saidi of handing picking his friends in the name of President Mutharika while giving a cold-shoulder to DPP diehard.

The issue also came to light during a thank you rally organized in Mtandire, Lilongwe on Sunday where Minister of State Alfred Gangata who is also DPP Vice President for central region accused some top officials in government of spreading lies to the President over certain individuals.

“Pali anthu ena omwe anavutika kupanga Campaign ya Mutharika from Central Region koma sakupindula ndipo Pali enake mbomamu omwe akunena maboza kuti anthu awawa asapindule. Tikukuziwani ndipo mukapitiliza tibwela konko tizakutuluseni mu office menemo,” Said Gangata.

Concurring with Gangata’s remarks, one of the top officials who opted for anonymity openly accused Saidi and some Ministers of lopping in friends and relatives in the name of technocrats.

“People who championed APM Ayimanso and others who sacrificed everything are all sidelined and yet girl friends, relatives of Saidi and some Ministers are being considered. This is not on

“DPP supporters are not happy with this. These people will be needed in the next election,” said the source.

The source went further to claim that some officials from Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) are also being heavily sidelined.

Effort to talk to Saidi on the matter proved futile.
