Over the weekend on November 15, Member of Parliament for Blantyre Chilomoni, Kabula and Nancholi constituency, Noel Lipipa, pledged to take full responsibility for ensuring that all students in his constituency who scored 21 points or below in this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations receive financial support or educational loans to pursue further studies.
Lipipa made the commitment at his residence during a special luncheon he organized for outstanding students and their parents. A total of 60 students and their guardians attended the event.
He emphasized that “From now onwards and for the next five years, no student from this constituency who performs well in exams will fail to go to university due to lack of fees or financial assistance.”
Lipipa said he will personally follow up to ensure that every deserving student secures the necessary support.
Later, Lipipa and Chilomoni Ward Councillor Philip Kameta Litchowa visited youths attending activities at Beehive Hall in Chilomoni, where they encouraged them to protect themselves from sexual exploitation and risky behavior.
Meanwhile, health officials from Chilomoni Health Centre have raised concerns over increasing cases of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among young people in the area especially in Nthukwa.
