Mellz Kumpanje Questions COSOMA for Never Inviting Him to Meetings

Well-known Bangwe artist Mellz Kumpanje has publicly expressed his frustration with the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA), accusing the body of sidelining him despite being a registered and active member.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mellz said he is always surprised to see fellow artists being invited to COSOMA meetings while he has never received even a single invitation  despite holding a valid membership ID

“I am a member of COSOMA… I even have a COSOMA ID. What does it take for someone to be included in COSOMA meetings?” wrote Mellz.

The Zipweteko hitmaker, further questioned why do they invite people like Small Wiffey, while he is continuously overlooked. He wondered why he was issued an ID if he is not considered when important engagements are taking place.

Mellz also hinted that there might be someone within COSOMA’s board who has personal issues with him, jokingly suggesting that perhaps “at some point they may have fought over a woman”,  though he made it clear he is still confused about the real reason behind his exclusion.

He added that he only learns about COSOMA meetings through rumours and hearsay, saying it now feels normal to simply “smell” that a meeting is happening rather than being officially notified.

Mellz’s post has opened conversation among artists and fans in the comment section, with many asking COSOMA to explain how it selects members for its meetings and whether the process is fair and transparent.
