Taxi Driver Accused Of Sodomizing Children In Mangochi Is Granted Bail

The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Mangochi has granted bail to Ben Kamando, a driver who was arrested on 6 November on suspicion of committing sexual intercourse with children, an offence under Section 156 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Kamando, who operates a Sienta taxi service on the Mangochi-Golomoti-Salima road, is alleged to have been involved in the crime from 2023 until October this year.
In court, Kamando denied the charges. The prosecution called five witnesses; two have already testified, while three more are yet to appear.
Kamando was ordered to provide a bail bond of K300,000, two sureties who can pay K1.5 million each if he absconds, and to report to the Mangochi Police Station every Friday by 4:00 pm.
Kamando has already provided the bond and two witnesses. The case is scheduled to return to court on 16 December 2025.
He hails from Saitikadzuwa village in T/A Mponda area of Mangochi District.
