The Blantyre Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to videographer and social media personality Kenneth Makina, popularly known as VJ Ken, who appeared in court facing charges of child abduction and engaging in sexual activities with a minor.
VJ Ken, 30, also faces a separate charge of embezzling K16.7 million, according to court records.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges. Senior Resident Magistrate Mercy Bonongwe ruled that bail would only be considered after two key state witnesses have given their testimony. The court noted that granting bail at this stage could interfere with the administration of justice, as the accused resides in the same community as the child witnesses and could potentially influence them.
The case has been adjourned to Friday, 21 November 2025, to allow the state time to prepare and present its witnesses in court.
