Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate for the Lilongwe City Mtandire–Mtsiliza constituency, George Zulu, has appealed against the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)’s decision to declare Alfred Gangata of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) the winner of the constituency election.

This follows the MEC’s announcement this morning confirming Gangata as the winner, in line with court directives and established procedures.

In a letter released by Zulu, he described the MEC’s actions as “unfortunate” and “a violation of the Constitution.”

He argued that it was unacceptable for the MEC to proceed with declaring the results despite what he claims are irregularities in the election.

Zulu stated that he would not remain passive and intends to pursue all necessary steps to ensure justice is served.
