SULOM Orders Replay of Abandoned Wanderers vs Ekhaya Game, Hands Warnings and Suspends Officials

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has ruled that the abandoned TNM Super League game between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC will be replayed on 7 December 2025 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The original fixture, played on 5 November 2025, was called off before full time after descending into disorder, forcing security teams to intervene and officials to halt proceedings.

In a formal statement, SULOM said the game failed to reach the minimum 75 minutes required to stand as a completed match, adding that its review found multiple breakdowns in match readiness and safety compliance involving both clubs, referees and league personnel.

The league issued stern warnings to Wanderers and Ekhaya FC, accompanied by a suspended fine of MK5 million for each side, a penalty SULOM said would be activated only if the teams commit similar breaches again. SULOM accused both clubs of “failing to meet their obligations on crowd control, security arrangements and basic match preparation”.

SULOM also recommended disciplinary action against the match officials, saying they did not implement FIFA Return to Football protocols, a set of guidelines governing player safety and match continuity during disruptions.

Separately, the league confirmed that its security officer and General Match Coordinator will both serve four-match suspensions, while also condemning their part in “critical protocol breaches that compromised fixture management”.

The decision adds to SULOM’s growing attempts to clamp down on match-day operational failures in the country’s top league, amid rising concerns from supporters, sponsors and football stakeholders that fixtures are increasingly being derailed by avoidable administrative lapses.

The replay will be the second high-profile refixture this season ordered by SULOM, highlighting deepening scrutiny over domestic football governance.
