It has been a whirlwind weekend in Malawi, with fun and enjoyment spreading across the country’s major cities. From children to youth and elders, every age group found something to celebrate as November came to a colorful and lively close.

In what appeared to be a collective rebellion against stress , the silent enemy many fear is taking people to the grave too soon, Malawians stepped out to social gatherings and entertainment events designed to lift spirits and cool off life’s pressure.

Blantyre Kicks Off the Weekend

The weekend officially opened on Saturday, 29 November, when families in Blantyre gathered at Greek Orthodox Garden, Ginery Corner for the Family Fun Fest. The venue transformed into a playground of excitement featuring games, food stalls, kids’ activities and back-to-back live performances. Urban artist Zeze Kingstone was also part of the day’s headline entertainment, delivering an energetic live set that kept the audience dancing and vibing through the afternoon.

Lilongwe Honors Comedy Legends

While Blantyre was celebrating family time, the capital city Lilongwe was busy paying tribute to two of Malawi’s most loved comedy icons at BICC. The Izeki ndi Jakobo Memorial Show pulled crowds from across the country, uniting generations in laughter, nostalgia and remembrance. Legendary comedians including Manganya, Winiko and several respected faces in local comedy, thrilled audiences with performances that honored the humor, legacy and impact of the late duo.

On Sunday, 30 November, the mood only got bigger. Blantyre Turns Into Rasta Nation

All roads in the south led to Chileka Airbase, where thousands gathered wearing the peace’s colors  ‘Red, Green and Gold’  for the Matafale Memorial Show, held in honor of the late reggae legend Evison Matafale. The atmosphere carried a deep sense of peace, unity and Rastafari lifestyle as fans lit the air with smoke that floated like clouds above the crowd, adding to the spirit of reggae livity and celebration of life through music. With reggae blasting, dreadlocks swaying and hearts locked in memory, the festival stood as a powerful cultural moment of remembrance.

Lilongwe Gets a Taste of Africa’s Coolest Kid

Meanwhile in Lilongwe, Aero Lounge was the hottest spot as South African rap heavyweight Nasty C graced the stage for the Wanted Show, organized by Malawi’s very own hit-maker Gwamba at Aero Lounge. The show sold out within hours, leaving a number of fans stranded outside without access. However, those who made it inside enjoyed an unforgettable setlist as Nasty C performed some of his biggest hits live, giving Lilongwe a night of swagger, bars, and international star power.

Wedding Bells in the Entertainment Industry

Away from the stages and festival crowds, Malawi’s entertainment scene also recorded major milestones as love took center stage:

Urban gospel artist Beracah exchanged vows with Keziah, daughter of gospel trailblazer Apostle E. Chitheka, in a beautiful union that captivated fans online. And also popular vernacular rapper ‘Achina Gattah Ase’ tied the knot with Elicy, marking the start of their journey into married life.

It has been  A weekend that showed Malawi’s heart from festivals that healed family bonds, comedy that revived old memories, and memorial concerts that promoted peace and culture to sold-out music and celebrity wedding celebrations  it was a weekend that proved one thing: No matter how heavy life gets, Malawians know how to show up, celebrate, remember and live.
