Police in Chitipa have arrested a 34-year-old man, Martin Kayange, for allegedly trafficking three children from Malawi to Zambia for farm labour.
Chitipa Police Public Relations Officer, Gladwell Simwaka, confirmed the arrest and said the case was uncovered after a parent reported her 15-year-old son missing.
Simwaka said police investigations established that the three children were trafficked to Kaombwe in Zambia, where they were reportedly taken to work on farms.
He further said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he took the children across the border, and authorities are now working with Zambian police to safely bring the minors back to Malawi.
Kayange, who comes from Symon Village under Senior Chief Mwaulambya, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of child trafficking.
