Michiru View Girls Secondary School has announced the premature closure of its boarding section after violent student demonstrations erupted on the night of December 3, 2025, causing damage to school property.

In a notice issued to parents and guardians, management said all boarding learners were ordered to leave the campus on December 4, 2025, effectively bringing the first term of the 2025/2026 academic year to an unexpected end.

The school says the measure is aimed at safeguarding students while authorities assess the extent of the destruction and investigate the cause of the unrest.

The development has drawn attention because it comes almost exactly a year after a similar incident at the institution’s boys’ school.

On 12 December last year, Michiru View Boys which operates under Michiru View Private Secondary School in Blantyre was also closed indefinitely after a fire, allegedly started by students, burnt down the staff room and the headteacher’s office. At the time, several students told reporters that the fire broke out around midnight after learners expressed anger over management’s failure to address their concerns about poor food quality.

The latest disruption at the girls’ school has again raised questions about learner welfare, school management, and the rising trend of violent protests in boarding institutions.

School authorities say more information will be shared in due course as investigations continue.
