Police in Mchinji have arrested a 32-year-old man, Zebron Amos, for allegedly assaulting his 66-year-old father, Amos Mpika, to death following a family dispute over food items and K7,000.

Mchinji Police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira said the incident occurred on Tuesday after Zebron received food supplies and the cash from his brother-in-law, meant to be handed over to his father.

According to Mpinganjira, the suspect failed to deliver the items, prompting the father to confront him.

“Zebron became furious and violent during the confrontation. He refused to surrender the money, picked a wooden object, and struck his father on the head. The father died on the spot,” explained Mpinganjira.

The family hails from Bulikumwendo Village under Traditional Authority Mduwa.

Zebron is expected to appear in court soon to face a murder charge.
