A 22-year-old former Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHes) student, Desire Mhango, has gone missing months after being weeded from the institution, her family has confirmed.

Desire, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Dental Surgery, left home on 2 November 2025, informing her guardian, John Nyirenda, that she was returning to campus. She later called to say she had arrived safely in Blantyre, but that was the last time her family heard from her.

Nyirenda said all attempts to reach her afterwards failed, prompting the family to launch a search. Their inquiries later established that Desire had been weeded from KuHes in April 2025, information the family was previously unaware of.

According to Nyirenda, both police investigations and family follow-ups indicated that Desire was later spotted in Ngabu, Chikwawa, but she reportedly left the area and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Although not her biological father, Nyirenda said he raised Desire through her education and believes she still had academic potential despite being removed from the programme. He is appealing to the public for assistance in locating her.
