A police officer stationed at Chipoka Police Post has been arrested for allegedly stealing equipment worth K850,000 from Fuhua Investment in Chipoka, Salima, a police report has confirmed.
The theft occurred on December 7, 2025, when company employees discovered that a ship battery charger and a generator battery had gone missing.
Initial suspicion was directed at Constable Jones Kalemba, 28, who was on duty guarding the lakeshore area at the time of the incident.
Detectives visited the scene and questioned the officer, who denied any involvement. However, on December 8, after investigators requested access to the company’s CCTV footage, Kalemba confessed to the crime.
He later led police officers to two separate locations within the company premises where he had hidden the stolen items. Both items have been successfully recovered.
Authorities say the suspect will appear in court once investigations are finalized.
