Former digital manager for social media personality Ida Chicker Chabs, The Shannon McWilliams, has allegedly been arrested and detained at Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe over a Facebook post he made.
According to information allegedly reported by Gerald Chavez Kampanikiza, McWilliams was taken in on allegations of cyberbullying and character defamation after posting a lengthy, heated statement accusing Chabs of mistreatment and unpaid debts.
In the post, Shannon alleged that: He was a service provider, not an employee, and claimed Chabs disrespected him by trying to dictate his pricing.
He adjusted his fee from K170,000 to K250,000 after the alleged dispute.
He managed her digital platforms for four years, allegedly building her engagement and audience from scratch.
Chabs allegedly owes him close to K500,000 after he hired a vehicle from her that later broke down due to what he claimed was poor maintenance and also said that chabs later invented contract claims to avoid refunds.
McWilliams further alleged that he supported Chabs’ businesses in good faith renting her car, paying for her short-stay house, and helping grow her brand only to be met with “manipulation” and “disrespect.”
In his conclusion, he issued a strong warning, stating that he had blocked her for peace of mind and that he owed her nothing, adding ” if you continue with this nonsense, remember I still have the hard drive”.
The post, which quickly went viral, contained strong accusations and frustration, prompting police to allegedly intervene, treating the matter as a possible violation of the Electronic Transactions and Cybersecurity Act.
Police have not yet commented on the matter as the time of publishing this.
