Hospital Worker Arrested for Alleged Theft of Ultrasound Machine in Chiradzulu

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested 30-year-old Yamikani Mapapa from Zomba on suspicion of stealing an ultrasound machine from the Radiology Department at Chiradzulu District Hospital.
Police spokesperson Hubert Mwangoka said the machine was reported missing on November 23, 2025.
Mapapa, who did not attend a scheduled departmental meeting, allegedly provided conflicting explanations when questioned about the equipment.
Investigations revealed no signs of forced entry, and records from the hospital’s key register indicated that Mapapa was the last person to access the room where the machine was kept.
He is expected to appear in court to answer a charge of theft by a public servant.
