16-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide After Family Quarrel in Machinga

A 16-year-old girl, identified as Liviness Chiyipira, has committed suicide following a quarrel with her sister that escalated into a fight in Machinga District.

According to Machinga Police Station Public Relations Officer, Western Kansire, the incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday when the deceased allegedly took unknown tablets out of anger.

Kansire said Chiyipira was rushed to Chikweo Health Centre, where she died while receiving treatment.

A postmortem examination later revealed that the cause of death was poisoning.

Police said the deceased was from Mvoniha Village under Traditional Authority Ntumbwinda in the district.
