Fire Destroys Mzuzu University Hostel, Students Sent on Holiday

A fire has destroyed a hostel at Mzuzu University, reducing students’ property to ashes and leaving many stranded on campus.
Items lost in the blaze include clothes, books, food and other personal belongings.
University Registrar Yonamu Ngwira said in a statement that the fire started after a student left a hotplate switched on before leaving the hostel.
Following the incident, the University has ordered all students living on campus to vacate the premises with immediate effect.
Students have been instructed to proceed on holiday as previously announced by the institution.
