Zambia Police have launched a manhunt for a male suspect identified as Elvis Kalunga of Sawmills Compound in Livingstone, following allegations that he assaulted and raped a 19-year-old woman.

According to reports, on 21 December 2025, around 5:00 AM, the victim was conducting her usual business of buying mangoes for resale at the market. While moving between houses, she reportedly encountered the suspect, whom she knows personally.

It is alleged that the suspect produced a knife and threatened the victim, punching her in the face as she attempted to shout. He is said to have dragged her into a nearby unoccupied house, where he allegedly forcibly had sexual intercourse before fleeing the scene.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, confirmed the incident, noting that the victim sustained a swollen face and complained of genital pain. She was issued a medical report form, and a case docket has been officially opened as authorities work to apprehend the suspect.

Police have urged members of the public with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.
