Today, 23 December 2025, marks three years since the tragic passing of Malawian musician WalyCris (Wyson Laifoh). The artist, who was returning from a music show in South Africa, lost his life in a road accident, cutting short a promising career just as his hit song “Achalume” was gaining nationwide attention.
Born on 25 September 1997 in Machinjiri, Blantyre, WalyCris rose to prominence with songs like “Main Chick,” “Ndine Watsopano,” “Tsonga,” “Wataya Mwayi,” and “Maliya,” which topped Fresh on Zodiak TV for four consecutive weeks. He was a close friend and collaborator to fellow musicians Guntolah, Papa Juxy, Lomey, Mellz, and many others, known for his friendly nature and willingness to support upcoming artists.
WalyCris leaves behind his wife and twin baby boys, as fans, friends, and the music community continue to honor his legacy. Three years on, he is remembered not only for his talent and hit tracks but also for his vibrant spirit and his dreams of reaching the world stage.
