Police Fire Tear Gas as Mob Protests Killing in Salima

Information reaching this newsroom indicates that police in Salima have fired tear gas at Kamuzu Road Market to disperse an angry mob following the killing of a 22-year-old man on December 24.

The mob was reportedly protesting the alleged killing of the young man by another resident.

According to reports, the suspect found the victim lying drunk on his veranda and attacked him, mistaking him for a thief.

The protesters, believed to be from the Mlamba clan under Chief Kambwili, went on a rampage, destroying a house and setting the suspect’s vehicle on fire.

Police moved in to restore calm and dispersed the crowd using tear gas.

The suspect has since been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
