A yet-to-be-identified man has died after being struck by a Nissan Vanette minibus along Victoria Avenue in Blantyre on Christmas Day.

Blantyre Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Doris Mwitha confirmed the accident, which occurred near Ekhaya Shop.

The minibus was being driven by 22-year-old Edward Namunkhwa Junior, who sustained an injury to his left arm, while the vehicle was also damaged.

Mwitha said the minibus was travelling from Victoria Traffic Lights towards FDH Bank with passengers on board when it hit the pedestrian as he was crossing the road from left to right.

The victim sustained a fractured right leg, head injuries and bruises to the left arm, and later died while receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

Police have urged families whose male relatives did not return home to visit Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for identification, as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
