Police at Zalewa in Neno District have arrested a 23-year-old man, Chifundo Magalasi, in connection with the alleged murder of his brother-in-law, John Thomas.
Neno Police Public Relations Officer Rebecca Msoliza said the incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute between the two men. She explained that on October 15, 2025, the deceased allegedly set fire to Magalasi’s house, worsening tensions.
According to Msoliza, on the night of December 21, 2025, Thomas went out drinking and later slept outside his house due to hot weather. The following morning, community members discovered his body lying in a pool of blood.
Police immediately launched investigations, which led to the arrest of Magalasi on December 28, 2025.
A postmortem examination conducted at Zalewa Health Centre revealed that Thomas suffered a skull fracture caused by a blunt object and died from severe head injuries.
Msoliza said Magalasi, who hails from Ngwenyama Village under Traditional Authority Symon, has voluntarily confessed to killing his brother-in-law using a wooden stick, allegedly as an act of revenge. He is expected to appear in court soon to answer a murder charge.
The deceased, John Thomas, was from Fundani Village, also under Traditional Authority Symon in Neno District.
