Police in Nkhata Bay District are investigating the disappearance of three fishermen who went missing on Lake Malawi on December 28.
The fishermen are from the area of Senior Chief Mankhambila.
Village Headman Thawale of Ndambo Village identified the missing men as Moses Kamanga, Daniel Kasalika Mwale and Village Headman Musawanika, also known as Lanua Kaunda, all from Dambo Village.
According to Thawale, the trio departed from Chiya Dock to go fishing but failed to return.
He said strong winds caused by heavy rains that had battered the district for three consecutive days may have contributed to the incident.
Nkhata Bay Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Devoter Mithi has urged community members to remain calm and patient as search and rescue efforts continue.
